Housing For All 1 comes from Christa’s 2020 Housing For All series, which was inspired in part by feelings of powerlessness during the COVID-19 pandemic and in the face of others’ addictions. The series depicts a just world where there is housing for all. Symbols of basic needs being met appear throughout, including a pond, a dwelling, and a ring, while larger landscapes show housing extending as far as the eye can see.
About the Artist
Christa Brandenburg has lived in the Pacific Northwest for more than 30 years. Her work is influenced by photography and the Japanese principles of Notan. She began painting full time in 2022 after a 35-year career as an addictions and mental health counselor. In her painting, as in her work with others, the verbs are much the same: cultivating presence, seeing in, and uncovering. Her intention is to calm, surprise, and quicken the spirit of the viewer.
