How to Make a Skateboard Sandwhich by Madeline Ford

from $2.00

This piece is from a moment that Madeline looks back on fondly. While on a long road trip in New Zealand, they finally drove to the end of the road and made peanut butter and jam sandwiches (peanut butter- crunchy, jam - strawberry) on top of her first skateboard. She passed one over the edge to Kai as he was riding on the skate ramp. As he grabbed it he fell, gracefully sliding down the ramp on his knees, holding the sandwich aloft, and when he reached the bottom he took a messy, glorious bite. Simple and blissful.

MA FORD, aka Madeline Ford, grew up in Oregon City and moved to Southeast Portland, taking a few pit stops and detours via New Zealand, Australia, Italy, and Mexico for a meandering handful of years. Along the way she picked up skills as a sign painter, printmaker, and mural painter. She also picked up a skateboarding habit and a love of butter chicken meat pies. Now she is nestled back in Portland, painting murals as often as she can and finding ways to support her community through the arts, such as illustrating for the Blanchet House OTL show and painting with at-risk youth through nonprofit Color Outside the Lines. She still finds time to dip out of the country with her partner to skate and paint murals, most recently in Morocco and Mexico. (@littlecilantro)
